While true that there are no diminishing returns for stat investments in TD2, what was most likely poorly expressed by saying "diminishing returns" is that when you already have a large amount of crit damage, for example: 150%, adding 10% crit damage to that amount will yield lesser damage improvements than adding 10% armour damage to a build that has 20% armour damage.
